The fragment catalogued only as a “Romance poem” holds two Upper Engadine (Puter) Romansh hymns, c. 1600, one for Christmas and one on the Seven Last Words.
Acknowledged: The holding library has said the identification is new to its records. That is not peer review. The library said the identification was new to its records. Not a new text; both hymns are known in another Romansh idiom.
The Christmas song is a version of “Der Tag, der ist so freudenreich”; the Seven Last Words song follows Böschenstein. Both are in Durich Chiampel’s Cudesch da Psalms (1562, nos. 18 and 23), in Vallader. Whether this Puter version was ever printed is not known.
